SQL Server SP2 provides customers a stable data platform that is completely compatible with Windows Vista and Office 2007. All customers who want to use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 while taking advantage of the enhancements with Windows Vista and Office 2007 can with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
New updates to the licensing of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition increase customer flexibility for use on virtual machines and provide customers with more value for their licenses.
SQL Server Enterprise Edition customers only need to purchase one license per physical processor regardless of the number of virtually deployed instances.
When an organization licenses all of the server’s physical processors it can run as many virtual instances as needed with no additional licenses.
Licensing processors in a server also provides an unlimited number of SQL Server instances on an unlimited number of virtual operating system environments with no additional licensing.
For the Server CAL model, an organization can run any number of virtual instances with an assigned server license. CALS are still required to use the software depending on how many devices or users are using the server.
SQL Server 2005 SP2 delivers many key enhancements, including updates to Reporting Services and Analysis Services targeted to deliver smooth BI functionality and integration with Office 2007
Data Mining Add-Ins for Office 2007, which enables data mining functionality from SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to be used directly within Excel 2007 and Visio 2007.
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) integration with MOSS 2007, which allows integration with the Report Center in SharePoint providing seamless consumption and management of SSRS reports within SharePoint.
